Lester Frank Whitney Jr., 69, of Prosser, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at his home.
He was born on February 10, 1948 in Prosser to Lester Frank Whitney Sr. and Marie Olive (Offield) Whitney. He was raised and educated in Prosser and graduated with Prosser High School Class of 1966. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard a minesweeper during the Vietnam War and as a cook during his tour of duty in Antarctica, and the remainder of his twenty year naval career. He met his wife, Patricia Ann Conway in Southern California and the couple married on December 12, 1970 in Kodiak, Alaska. After retiring, Les and Pat made their home in Prosser. Les worked for Standard Manufacturing in Sunnyside delivering feed and as a bus driver and cook.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Prosser Post 3207 and served as Post Commander. He enjoyed fishing, guns, camping and off road driving in his jeep.
He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Patricia Whitney of Prosser; two daughters, Brenda Whitney and her husband, Dave Seroka of Prosser and LeAnn Whitney of Maple Valley; three grandchildren, Kassondra (Andrew) Barrera of Pasco, Jessica Seroka of Prosser and Sigmund Seroka of Prosser; four great-grandchildren, Jayleigh, Piper, Anthony and Myles Barrera; and two nephews, Doug Murphy and Brian Murphy both of Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice “Bunny” Baynard and Barbara Mattola; and his parents.
