SPRINGFIELD - Kevin J. Flaherty, 67, of the Classical High Condominiums in Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, June 25, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Palmer, Massachusetts on July 15, 1949, a beloved son of the late Dr. James R. and Kathryn M. (Gully) Flaherty. He was raised in Palmer, graduated from Palmer High School and lived in Springfield for most of his life. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor's Degree in History from American International College and later a Master's Degree in Counseling from Springfield College, both in Springfield. He was employed as a grant writer for the City of Springfield and later worked in Washington, D.C. Above all, he was a loving son, brother and uncle who enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving brother, Thomas J. Flaherty who was Called Home on July 31, 2005; and his dear brother-in-law, Robert Webb. He leaves his three loving sisters, Cara M. Flaherty-Webb of Florida, Tara K. Bellefleur and her husband, Allen, of Bloomfield, CT and Mara F. Flaherty of Florida; his loving brother, Brendan J. Flaherty of New Hampshire; his dear sister-in-law, Marietta O. Flaherty of Springfield; his cherished nephew and godson, James S. Flaherty and his wife, Raechel Zipagan-Flaherty, of Brooklyn, NY; his cherished niece, Noelle K. Bellefleur of Springfield; and his many dear cousins, friends and extended members of the Flaherty and Gully families. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, June 30, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas Cemetery, 1076 Thorndike Street, Palmer, MA 01069. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Springfield Museums, 21 Edwards Street, Springfield, MA 01103.
