Harold C. Giddens, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 5 PM, Friday, June 30, 2017 at his residence, 102 Bluebird Way.
Mr. Giddens was born February 25, 1930, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Clinton & Mabel Turner Giddens. He worked at the cotton mill in his younger years. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving as a cook aboard a ship. He was a welder in Newport News, Virginia for 22 years and later worked as an iron worker in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mr. Giddens coached little league baseball and enjoyed basketball. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on his boat and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Rosetta Giddens of Fitzgerald; children: David Varnedore, Jr, & Donna, Selina Cotterman & Bobby, and James Varnedore, all of Fitzgerald, and Loretta Varnedore of Ft. Worth, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Brenda & Frank Clements of Warner Robins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Giddens and three brothers: Jack Giddens, Alvin Giddens, and Melvin Giddens.
