Jerry Lee Hobby, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Old Valley Grove Cemetery in Irwin County, with the Rev. Adam Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Hobby was born November 3, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Curtis & Maredell Young Hobby. He was a heavy equipment operator for almost 50 years working throughout the state, retiring from Ross of Georgia in 2011. He enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling and was an avid Purple Hurricane football fan. Mr. Hobby had a passion for fox hunting and had raised many hounds through the years, specializing in the Walker breed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Roberts Hobby of Fitzgerald; children: Joi Hobby Kinnett & Lee of Fitzgerald, Tina Hobby Day of Savannah, Tennessee, Jabo Hobby & Psyche Pope of Abbeville, and Jessi Hobby Griffin & Brian of Waverly, Tennessee; grandchildren: Matt Day & Savannah Burrell of Douglas, Hunter Kinnett, Hobby Griffin, Bryce Griffin and Dene Harper; a great-grandson, Cole Daniels; two brothers: Jimmy & Pat Hobby and Terry & Mary Hobby, all of Fitzgerald; and a sister, Paula & John Mitchell of Rochelle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nichole Harper; a brother, Gerald “Dunk” Hobby and a sister, Martha Carolyn Hobby.
