Joan M. (Murray) Gorman, a 13 year resident of Medford and formerly of Somerville, South Yarmouth, and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her daughter's home in Medford. She was 85 years of age.
Joan was born in Boston on April 23, 1932, a daughter of the late Michael Murray and Mae (Howard) Murray. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1950. Joan worked as a medical secretary for the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Thirwood Place in Yarmouth, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, and for 6 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Joan was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late Thomas A. Gorman. She is the devoted mother of Christine Cullison and her husband Harold of Long Boat Key, FL, Kathryn Rodrigues of Somerville, Michael Gorman and his wife Judy of Gray, Maine, Erin DiBenedetto and her husband Joe of Medford, and the late Thomas A. Gorman II. Joan is the loving Nana to Keri, David, Mychal, Jocelyn, Alicia, Joe, Katelyn, and to her great-grandchildren Corey, Matthew, Miles, Julia, David, and Emma. She is the beloved sister of Robert Murray and his wife Joan of Medford, Paul Murray of Charlestown, Jack Murray and his wife Marie of Wilmington, and the late Louise Pinard and Russell Murray. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Joan is the dear friend of Judy Burton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne will be private. Her visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 2 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
