Diana N. Fabbri died June 3, 2017, at her home in Provincetown, Mass., with her family by her side. Diana was born Jan. 8, 1940, and grew up in Somerville, Mass. She raised her family in the Boston area before moving to Provincetown in 1983 with her daughter Paula.
Diana earned her associate degree in liberal arts and mental health and arts from Middlesex Community College in 1982, and became a certified nurse’s aide in 1992. She worked as an art therapist, bereavement counselor, guitar teacher and newspaper reporter. She found her calling as a DJ, audio engineer and operations manager at WOMR in Provincetown. She conducted hundreds of on-air interviews, cutting and splicing tape before the station converted to digital recording, and helped countless writers and artists get their start. She was elected to serve on the Provincetown Housing Authority, volunteered on the Friends of Maushop board, and worked at the Council on Aging before retiring at age 74. Diana wrote poetry and appeared in several plays, including the local production of “The Vagina Monologues,” and performed sound production for many others. Diana was a 20-year volunteer for Helping Our Women and was lovingly known as “Mom” to many of her daughter’s friends.
She was completing her first book, “Tacking into the Wind,” at the time of her death.
Diana will be remembered for her generosity and whimsical spirit. She loved celebrating the Summer Solstice, blowing soap bubbles, rallying strangers in elevators to sing together, playing music, watching the sunset at Herring Cove Beach and being with friends in her beloved Provincetown.
Diana is survived by three children, Albert Pisani and his wife, Joy Winslow, of Needham, Mass.; Andrea Adelung and her husband, Bernd, of Saal, Germany; and Paula Pisani and her husband, George Hutti, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren Julia and Sven Adelung; ex-husband and friend Arthur Pisani of Sanbornton, N.H.; sisters Rose Ballo, Marie Dube and Ann Buck; brother Louis Fabbri; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Santina Fabbri, and brothers Joe and Julio Fabbri.
In lieu of flowers, Diana asked that donations be made to Helping Our Women at helpingourwomen.org.
