Mildred C. (Faugno) Collins, 58, died Saturday, June 10th due to injuries sustained in a car
accident. She leaves her husband of 37 years, Gregg A. Collins Sr, her son, Gregg A. Collins Jr and his wife Caitlin Tivnan of Worcester, her two daughters, Rebecca Collins-Ansah and her husband Kwabena Ansah of Worcester and Meagan C. Collins of Worcester, three sisters; Mary Faugno-Wiles and her husband Douglas of Brookfield, Dominica Chisholm and husband Peter of Danvers and Angela Gardner and her husband, Ross of the state of Washington. She also leaves three granddaughters Tatalia Hamilton, Teresa Collins, Gianna Ansah as well as several nieces and nephews. Mildred is predeceased by three grandchildren.
She was born in Ware, MA, the daughter of the late Henry and Joan (Fortier) Faungo. Mildred graduated from David Hale Fanning Culinary School in 1979. Home and family were where her heart was. She was dedicated to her husband Gregg, a retired City of Worcester school custodian and her granddaughters.
Mildred was a tremendously generous giver to others. She worked as a group counselor for 25 years at Catholic Charities, Youville House and founded and ran the New England Outreach Program. In more recent years she dedicated time and effort to establishing and building up a business with her son Gregg; Teresa’s Pizza, 198 Millbury Ave., Millbury.
She was a member of the Worcester Anti-Foreclosure Team and was a leading light to hundreds of households facing foreclosure. With activists and elected officials statewide, she changed policies to ensure a future for her children and many victims of the foreclosure crisis.
Her funeral is Tuesday, June 20th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, June 19th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
