Obituary

HOLYOKE - Martell R. "Marty" Laughlin, 80, of the Beaven Kelly Home in Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, June 15, 2017. He was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, a son of the late Frank L. and Olive C. (Newman) Laughlin. He was raised in Yakima, Washington and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954 where he served in the Korean War and attained the rank of Private First Class. He transferred to the United States Air Force in 1956 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He served in the Air Force for nearly 20 years and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a member of the Fairview American Legion Post 438, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Chicopee. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters-in-law, Laurie A. (Fraser) Laughlin and Karen A. (Hayduk) Laughlin; a great-granddaughter, Abigail; three brothers, Joseph Laughlin, Frank Laughlin and Glenn Mathison; and three sisters, Dorothy Laughlin, Toreva Crandall and Marieta Lee. He leaves his former wife, Dona "Pat" (Cote) Laughlin of Chicopee; his six children, Daniel J. Laughlin and his wife, Terri Breton, of Texas, William L. Laughlin and his wife, Lori, of Chicopee, Andrew J. Laughlin of Chicopee, Stephen A. Laughlin and his wife, Bernadette, of South Hadley, Kathleen M. Laughlin and her partner, Marc Benoit, of Chicopee and Thomas G. Laughlin of Chicopee; his 14 grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; his brother, James Laughlin; his sister, Marilyn Gardner; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon which will be followed by a 12 noon Prayer Service at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. (The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home). His Committal Service with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at 2 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
