Obituary

Charles M. "Mickey" Portrais, 54, died on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at his home in Johnston.
He is survived by his children: Michael and Megan Portrais and his grandchildren: Collin and Kylie.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles and Beatrice (McAuliffe) Portrais. Mickey lived in Scituate and Foster for nearly his entire life. He had a deep passion for auto racing, and raced locally from 1977 through the mid 199's. Mickey loved hunting, fishing, and family. He worked for Penske trucking, where he was the Most Valuable Employee in 2007.
Unfortunately, in 2007, Mickey suffered catastrophic injuries while attempting to save a local man from a burning building in Providence. Mickey overcame all odds and survived his injuries which was considered to be a medical phenomenon. He was determined and courageous in his efforts to be independent and live life. Mickey spent countless hours with his friends at Farrar's Garage in Scituate, RI. He could often be found with his friends, Jim or Bob on weekends at Seekonk Speedway. Mickey was a true inspiration to all who knew him and will be dearly missed. He leaves behind many dear friends and a beautiful 1968 c10 pickup truck.
A graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Friday, June 16th at noon in Highland Park in Johnston.
