Obituary

Dorothy E. "Dottie" (Barden) Slattery, a 61 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of the South End, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center in the North End. She was 83 years of age.

Dottie was born in Boston on June 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Philip V. Barden and Mehitabel (Woolsey) Barden. She grew up in the South End where she attended the Abraham Lincoln Grammar School and graduated from Girls High School in 1951. Dottie was a former organist and choir director of the First Baptist Church of Charlestown, she was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Center and she was a delegate for the Citywide Parents Council for Boston Public Schools.

Dottie is the beloved wife of the late James F. Slattery. She is the devoted mother of William Slattery, Dorothy Slattery, Somerville Police Officer James F. Slattery Jr. and his wife Stephanie, and John Slattery. She is the loving Gramma to Kerri-Anne, Michael, Cameron, John-Ryan, Shauna, Aidan, the late James, and to her great-grandson James. She is the beloved sister of Robert Barden, Margaret Tremblay, Philip Barden, Stewart Barden, and the late Forest Barden, and Russell Barden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dottie's Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury. Her visiting hours will be on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral Home.
