James Gibbs, 60, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in Cook County, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Gibbs was born September 9, 1956, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Ernest “Sonny” Gibbs and Etta Bell Penn Cross. He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in North Carolina. Mr. Gibbs served his country honorably in the United States Army. He lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Gibbs was a truck driver for P & M Trucking and a former truck driver for Kyle Waldron.
He is survived by his children: Deidre Amanda Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Jacob David & Randi Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Olanda & Sidney Thomas of Fitzgerald and James Alan & Wynette Gibbs of Bowen’s Mill; eight grandchildren: Kalise Thomas, Sydney Thomas, Aubryn Thomas, Nadia Parra, Ameana Mendoza, Roxi Gibbs, Jerzi Gibbs and Jaxton Gibbs; a sister, Debbie Sexton Alligood & Mike of Macon and four brothers: David Gibbs of Fitzgerald, Sam & Rachel Cross of Fitzgerald, Jack & Connie Sexton of Fitzgerald, Homer Lee Cross & Sharon of Byron. Many cousins still survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Cross and a sister, Beverly Sexton.
