Obituary

Frederick James McCann, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died June 5, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, June 8, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Cecil Burkett officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. McCann was born April 26, 1945, in Jamestown, New York, to the late James L. & Emma Smith McCann. He was married November 23, 1968, in Falconer, New York, to Virginia Carol Jimerson. He was a Vietnam veteran and served as a Specialist E4 in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. As part of the 544th Transportation Company he earned a Sharp Shooter badge, National Defense Service medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal and Vietnam Service medal. Mr. McCann worked several years for the Zeollie Beverages in Jamestown, New York. He also worked 23 years at Deep South Products in Orlando, Florida, and later moved to Fitzgerald, Georgia, where he retired. He was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1082 and the American Legion Post 99. Mr. McCann was a member of Faith Baptist Church, in Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his son, Patrick James McCann & Patti of Orlando, Florida; a daughter, Emily Sue Ray & Daniel of Fitzgerald; four granddaughters: April Nicole Ray, Kaitlyn Alexandra Grider, Sadie Rose McCann and Grace Leigh-Ann McCann. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Virginia Carol McCann and three sisters: Janet Whitehill, Luella A. Gilbert and Nancy J. Mower.
