Alice R. Banks, 96 of Sandown, NH, formerly of Everett, MA, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born April 15, 1921 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, a daughter of the late James and Kathleen (Kelly) Banks. She was raised and educated in Everett, MA, where she resided most of her life. After retirement, Alice moved to Sandown to be closer to family and resided there for more than 25 years.
Alice was a bookkeeper by trade and worked for Family Finance Co. of Boston, and for many years at O’Connell Plumbing and Heating of Everett. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Members of the family include her nephews, Fredrick L. Black and his wife Virginia of Sandown, and Arthur Kearley of Pinellas Park, FL, her nieces, Marilyn Towne and her husband Philip of Sandown, and Janice E. Higgins and her partner, Brett Kirstead of Sandown, as well as many great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Kathleen Black and Grace Young, a brother, Cecil Banks, nieces Norma Kearley and Patricia Boliver, and a nephew James Young.
Calling hours were held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 6 to 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. Funeral services was celebrated Wednesday June 7th at 10:00am at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 187 East Rd., Hampstead, NH. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Christopher’s Memorial Garden, 187 East Rd., Hampstead, NH 03841.
