Therese B. (Menard) Gonsalves, age 90, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Arbors Assisted Living at Taunton. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter P. Gonsalves, Jr., to whom she was wed for over fifty years.
Born in North Dighton, MA on January 31, 1927, she was a loving daughter of the late Henry and Beatrice (Bellerose) Menard.
Therese grew up in North Dighton and was educated in Taunton schools. She had made her home in Norton for over 65 years and prior to retiring, had worked as an assembler at the Valentine Tool & Stamping Co. in Norton.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Mrs. Gonsalves loved spending time with her family and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Along with her late husband Peter, she enjoyed traveling, which included cruises and several trips to Portugal. Therese also enjoyed reading and caring for houseplants.
She is survived by her devoted children Michael Gonsalves and his wife Julie of Oregon, Patti Ferguson and her husband David of Dartmouth, and David Gonsalves and his wife Christine of Connecticut. She was the adoring grandmother of Kate Gonsalves, Sally Gonsalves, Justin Gonsalves, Nicholas Gonsalves, Paige Gonsalves and Tiffani Ferguson. She was the dear sister of Muriel Boivin and her husband Robert of Connecticut, the late Norman Menard and Raymond Menard, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Therese’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
