Patrick P. “Pat” Grande, of Medford, passed away peacefully on June 1st at the Daniels House Nursing home in Reading. He was 90.
Born in Cambridge, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Maria (Raspa) Grande. Pat was the devoted husband of the late Anna F. and Madeline A. and the loving father of Patrice A. Grande, Paul W. Grande and his wife, Lucia, and Donna P. Pollens and her husband, Robert West. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael A.A. Pollens and great grandfather of Owen West. Dear brother of the late Francis, Domenic, and Joseph Grande, he is also survived by his brother-in-law, and many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends: the Baileys, the Gumbletons, the Ouelettes, Janis Collamore, Amedeo Tassinari, and Bishop Robert Reed.
Pat attended school in Cambridge, but left to support his mother and younger brother during WWII while his older brothers were serving. Pat enlisted in the Army when his brothers returned and served as a sergeant from 1946-1947.
Pat had a long and successful career as a shoe salesman in various stores in Boston. He retired in 1991.
After retirement, Pat enjoyed many woodworking projects, using mostly recycled wood. He became very skilled at his hobby. All his family and friends were grateful recipients of his clever handiwork, for which he will be warmly remembered.
Pat was a devout Catholic who had a deep faith in his religion. At the Immaculate Conception in Everett, he taught CCD classes. For 29 years he served as a Eucharistic minister for the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. Pat was a kind, generous man. He enjoyed socializing of any kind, and loved being with others. He had a special interest in the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Tuesday, June 6th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
