Obituary

Richard Balest 100, of Saltsburg, PA Indiana county passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at the Maples Rehabilitation Center, Wrentham, MA. He spent the last four years in the loving care of his son, Richard, and daughter-in-law Maxine, in Norfolk, MA.

He was born August 24, 1916, in White Valley, a son of the late Paul and Josephine (Argenta) Balest. His brothers, Victor and Rudy and sister, Ella preceded him in death.

Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Rich’s Esso/Exxon station in Saltsburg for over 34 years. His wife, the former Mollie Ocepek of Claridge, PA in 1982, predeceased Richard. Also predeceased by his second wife and long time companion Eleanor (Kapusta) Balest of Delmont.

He is survived by sons, Richard (Maxine) of Norfolk, MA, Russell (Beverly) of Greensburgh, PA, Jerry of San Francisco, CA and Victor (Nancy) of Medina, OH. Eight grandchildren: Richard Balest, Jennifer Balest, Danielle Georgaklis, Russell Balest, Stephanie Balest, Brian Balest, Adam Balest, Sebastian Balest.

Six great-grandchildren; Lauren Balest, Lindsey Balest, Christos Georgaklis, Alexios Georgaklis, Hankins Balest and Huston Balest.

Traveling, hunting, fishing, Formula one racing, music, golfing and gardening were amongst his many interest. His extensive travels included all 50 states and Europe.

He was a long time member of the White Valley Social Club in White Valley, PA.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, June 4th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 701 Salt Street, Saltsburg, PA. The family would like to invite everyone to join them on Monday, June 5th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home for final viewing and to share memories of Richard. Committal service to follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, PA, at 11:30 a.m.
