Irene Dorothea Fournier, 88 of Manchester, passed away suddenly Monday, May 29, 2017 at her residence in the Birch Hill Terrace Community. Irene was born July 12, 1928 in Queens, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Anastasiades) Stylianos. Irene had formerly resided in Litchfield and Gilford, NH and Andover, MA. She was raised and educated in Astoria, NY, was a graduate of the Lowell State Teachers College in Lowell, MA and received her Masters of Education from Northeastern University while raising three young children.
Irene was employed for 20 years by the North Andover, MA School District and retired as the Director of Special Education. After retiring, she and her husband owned and operated the Maria Atwood Inn in Franklin, NH for 12 years. Irene later managed the gift shop at Birch Hill Terrace while a resident there. She was an avid tennis player, playing into her 80th year. Irene and her late husband, Philip, were former members of the Appalachian Mountain Club, enjoyed outdoor activities and traveled extensively.
Members of the family include her daughter, Denise Monroe of Hollis, NH, her granddaughter, Jill Monroe of North Andover, MA, grandson, Thomas Fournier of Arvada, CO, great grandson Jared Kondrat of North Andover, her sister, Gloria Mazza of Huntington, NY, two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Rachel Hamel of Manchester, NH and Charles and Suzanne Hedrick of Nobleborough, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Philip R. Fournier in 2010 and two sons, Philip L. Fournier in 1992 and David T. Fournier in 2003.
A memorial service was held for Mrs. Fournier at Birch Hill Terrace, 200 Alliance Way in Manchester on June 5th, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. She wase buried next to her husband at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY.
