NORTH YARMOUTH – Michelle (Missy) Anne Lyon passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Missy was born on December 19, 1960 in Inglewood, California, the first daughter of Thomas and Linda Lyon. After graduating from Grandview Senior High School in 1978, Missy went on to study Linguistics at the University of California at Santa Barbara, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1981. Missy also studied French at Avila University.
After college, Missy went on to work for Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., initially working at the office in Sacramento, California before moving to North Yarmouth and helping to open the Schwab office in Portland, Maine. While at the Portland Schwab office Missy worked as a Registered Representative, eventually being promoted to Vice President and Financial Consultant. Missy was last employed by Old Port Advisors in Portland.
Missy was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts of America. Missy established Troop 1684 in Cumberland / North Yarmouth and was its leader for over 12 years. She was also a multi-year member of the Service Team for Girl Scouts of Maine. Missy recently received the Volunteer of Excellence Award from the Girl Scouts of Maine for her extensive work in supporting the principles and values of the Girl Scouts of America.
Missy was a longtime season ticket holder at the Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick and was an avid supporter of the arts.
Missy was predeceased by her mother, Linda Lyon, who also was taken by cancer.
Missy is survived by her daughter Mimi Lyon Edmondson, her father Thomas Lyon of Peculiar, Mo., her sister Tracy Bean and husband Ron and their three daughters Molly, Mary and Macy of Liberal, Mo., her brother Scott Lyon and his sons Cameron and Baron of Wellsville, Ks., her uncle William Lucking of Las Vegas, Nv. and his daughters Marjet and Juliana, her aunt Ellan Fournier of Santa Paula, Ca., and her aunt Mary Goodwin Lyon of Brentwood, Ca.
Missy has requested that no service be held or memorial be placed.
