Obituary

Edward Lopes, 86, of New Bedford died Saturday May 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Hattie (Sadler) Lopes; they had been married for 59 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Anthony and Barbara A. (Capella) Lopes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Lopes was formerly employed as a construction worker for Warren Brothers Construction and A-1 Asphalt. He later worked at the Potting Bench.
He served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
He enjoyed playing Keno at Costa's Variety, playing cards at George's Tavern, and going to casinos.
He was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his wife Hattie; three daughters, Barbara Lopes, Kathy Lopes and her fiancé Wayne Holland, and Tammy Louro and her husband Jordan; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Curtis E. Lopes, and brother of the late Carmen Gaudreau, Mac, John, Mario, and Joe Lopes.
His visiting hours will be held on Monday June 5, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with a Memorial Service following at 7 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
