Obituary

Catherine V. "Kay" (Doherty) Curtin, a resident of Charlestown for over 65 years and formerly of Clonmany, County Donegal, Ireland, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center in the North End of Boston. She was 86 years old.

Kay was born in Clonmany, County Donegal Ireland on June 13, 1930, a daughter of the late Charles Doherty and Bridget (McLaughlin) Doherty. She grew up in Clonmany where she was educated there. While she was in her early 20's, Kay decided to leave the family farm in Clonmany and immigrated to the United States where she settled in Charlestown. Kay worked for over 30 years as a Home Health Aide in Charlestown where she dedicated herself to the elderly. She enjoyed playing bingo and doing word search puzzles but most of all in her life, Kay took great pride caring for her own family and was very proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Kay is the beloved wife of the late William W. Curtin. She is the devoted mother of Mary Anne Davis and her husband Timothy of South Carolina, Kathleen Reid and her husband Michael of Charlestown, Bridget Curtin-Buckley and her husband Gerry of Charlestown and William Curtin and his wife Robyn of Tewksbury. She is the loving Nana to Michael and his wife Lindsay, Eric, Teaghan, Katlyn, Kyle, Emma, Courtney, Colleen and her great-grandson Jack. She is the beloved sister of Danny Doherty of Ireland, Peggy Doherty of Ireland, Mary Jo O'Farrell of Ireland, Bridie O'Connor of England and Ann Hamilton of England. She is the dear friend of the late Maggie Urquhart, Jackie Atkinson and Helen Buckley.

Relatives and friends are invited at attend Kay's Funeral on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers kindly make a memorial donation in Kay's name to Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Center Activities Department, 70 Fulton St. Boston, Mass. 02109.

The family of Kay would like to acknowledge and send out a huge thank you to the entire staff at the Spaulding North End for taking such good care of our mother for the past 10 years. They also want to send out a special and personal thank you to Flavia who cared for her since day one and who we consider part of our family.
