New Bedford – Mary R. “Sally” (Quintino) Souza, age 98 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at St Lukes Hospital. She was born in New Bedford and was the widow of Edward Souza and the daughter of the late Mary R. “Guilhermina” (Motta) and Manuel R. Quintino.
She was the mother of; son, Edward J. “Jimmy” Souza and his wife Patricia of New Bedford; son, Carl Souza and his wife Sharon of Fairhaven; she was also the mother of the late, Ralph Souza (Anastasia) of Clinton, MA. Her grandchildren are; Kathleen Ziglar and husband Bill, Deborah Cox and husband Brian, Karyn Souza, Kristine Buss and husband Scott, Christopher Souza, Gregory Souza and wife Malorie, Daniel Souza and his companion, Elizabeth Pounds, Jacqueline Souza, and the late Andrew Souza who is survived by his wife Lucy. Mrs. Souza also has 7 great-grandchildren; Samantha and husband Matthew, Katye, Isabelle, Julia, Madison, Thomas and Olivia; as well as a sister, Elvira Carvalho of Fairhaven. She was sister of the late Carolina Mello, the late James Quintino and the late Georgiana Sylvia. She was also the stepsister of the late Braselena Durveau, Olive Costa, Armand Stone and William Stone.
Mrs. Souza was a Communicant of former St. John the Baptist Church of New Bedford and formerly employed by Paulding, Inc., Lisack Shoe and Acushnet Co. of New Bedford.
Her family thanks those at Bedford Gardens who cared for her these past several years; as well as Dr. Sharma and the South Coast Hospice, who took great care of her during her last few days. They also want to thank St. Luke’s Hospital’s Nursing Staff who provided excellent care.
Her visiting hours will be Monday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Flowers are Acceptable but donations may be made to a Charity of your choice.
