Obituary

Efrain Nunez-Arvelo, 47, of New Bedford died Monday June 3, 2002 at Hallmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the companion of Marlene Rose of New Bedford, and son of the late Efrain Nunez and Carmen Arvelo.

Born in Guanica, Puerto Rico, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he had lived in Boston for 11 years before moving to New Bedford in 1995.

Mr. Nunez-Arvelo was formerly employed as an outreach worker for the REC Ministry in area prisons and in the community. He had previously been a postal worker in the Boston area, and a customer service representative for Hertz at Logan Airport.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and was a longtime advocate for the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his companion; 3 stepsons, Aurelio Rodriquez, Frank Rose, and Okee Rodriquez, all of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Laura of Bridgeport, CT, and Erica of Medford, Mass; a sister, Sophia Nunez of Bridgeport; 3 stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His Committal Service will be held on Thursday June 6, 2002 at 10:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday June 5, 2002 from 7-9 PM.
