James F. Fitzgerald, age 84, of Sharon passed away peacefully May 21st at the South East Rehabilitation Center in Easton surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Watertown, he attended LaSalette Seminary High School and Boston College. Jim served in the Army during the Korean War and worked as an Insurance Salesman for Sentry Insurance in Braintree for 39 years. He lived in Sharon since 1961 where he was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. Jim was a devoted and loving man and his family was his proudest accomplishment. His children and grandchildren adored him and have many cherished memories of their beloved dad and Grampa Jim. They will always treasure how special he made each of them feel. Jim enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren,and was a passionate fan of all Boston sports teams. Jim enjoyed being a member of his Bible Study group at Our Lady of Sorrows church and looked forward to Friday lunches with his friends at Christo’s. An avid reader and talented writer, Jim also enjoyed spending time at the local Barnes and Noble solving crossword puzzles and writing in his personal journals. Jim leaves the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Mary T. (Milnes) along with their 5 children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Loving father of daughter Colleen M. Fitzgerald of Easton and her children Bryan Bartell and wife Jessica, Jaye Bartell, Lauren Bartell and Mike Pascucci, Megan Bartell and her son Noah; daughter Suzanne F. Flannery and husband Joe of Acton and their children Allie, Joey and Sarah; daughter Pamela M. Dodge and husband Stephen of Hopedale and their daughters Jacqueline and Carolyn; son James F. Fitzgerald III and wife Lori of Canton and their children Taylor and her fiance Daniel, James F. Fitzgerald IV and Lia; daughter Stephanie F. Lerner and husband Adam of Norton and their sons Aidan, Zachary and Camden James. Brother of Kathryn Baird of Sandwich and Thomas Shepard of Easton. Predeceased by his brothers Robert, William and John and his sister Alice. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. His family wants to give special thanks to Southeast Rehab and all of the amazing people who took such great care of Jim over the last two years. He made wonderful friends there, especially Bill Kelly and Jerry Fitzgerald. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday May 30th from 4-7 pm. Funeral mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Sharon Wednesday May 31st at 10 am. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Boston Children’s Hospital 300 Longwood Ave Boston, MA 02115 or to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverly Oaks Rd Waltham, MA 02452.
