Mark Gerald Richard, born in Manchester, NH and a resident of Somerville MA, died unexpectedly Saturday May 20, 2017.
He is survived by his father Gerald J. Richard of Seminole, FL, his stepmother Anne Marie Richard, his life partner Richard Mangan of Somerville, his sisters Karen Reid (Richard) of Derry, NH (spouse of Tom Reid), Lisa Richard of Baltimore, MD, and Catherine Richard of Somerville. He was preceded by his mother Priscilla (Phaneuf) Richard of Derry, NH. He is also survived by his niece Samantha Mackey of Concord, NH, his nephew Sebastian Dvorak of Baltimore, MD, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends.
He began his work life at Raytheon, then served in Waltham as a postman before pursuing a career in carpentry for Payne-Boucher in Boston.
Mark was a world traveler having spanned the globe visiting Europe, South Africa and Asia. He was an avid skier in his youth combining his love of travel and people with his love of skiing. Mark loved debating world politics and engaging travelers when they visited the US amazing all of them with his deep knowledge of the many cultures of the world. He had many friends and was an empathetic, kind caring man who was loved by many. He and his humor will be sorely missed.
The wake will be held at the Brown-Flaherty Funeral Home Thursday, May 25th, from 4-8pm in Somerville, MA. A Mass will be held Friday, May 26th at 10am at St Joseph’s Church also in Somerville with internment at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Everett, MA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Joseph’s Church Restoration Fund.
