RICE-STUART, Gloria C. passed away on May 19, 2017 at Beth Israel Hospital after a short illness. Born on Nov. 27, 1949 to the late Archie and Bernice Craven of Dalzell, SC. She was a 1967 Graduate of State H.S. Wife for 37 years to Richard J. Stuart. Mother of Derek Rice and his wife, Sue, David Rice and his wife, Jenn, all of Roslindale. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Erin, Braedon and Grayson all of Roslindale. Sister of Lonnie and Michael Craven of SC. Gloria was a Vietnam Era Navy Veteran who remained in Boston after her discharge – lucky for Boston. She worked as a Program Director for the City of Boston Affairs of the Elderly. She also gave freely of her time to city sponsored events such as spring clean ups, farmers markets, road races, bocce and golf tournaments, Toys for Tots, etc. Many people will miss Gloria’s smiling face, can do attitude and southern accent. She was a life member and past commander of AMVETS Post 1 and a member of the American Legion Post 78. Cremation Services have already been completed by the Gormley Funeral Home of West Roxbury and a celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at a later date.
