TEWKSBURY - Diane (Tontodonato) Fonzi, age 57, died peacefully on May 19 after a courageous six month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her adoring family at Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus, in the Paul Sullivan Suite. Diane was the beloved wife of Kenneth C. Fonzi, with whom she had recently celebrated a fifteenth wedding anniversary.
Born in Medford in June 1957, Diane was the youngest child of June M. (Hirschfeld) Tontodonato of Tewksbury and the late James M. Tontodonato. She was raised in Tewksbury and graduated T.M.H.S. with the Class of 1977. Diane was a member of the St. William’s Parish community. She devoted her life to her family. Her children and grandchildren were her world.
Along with her husband and mother, she leaves behind her daughter, Danielle M. LoPilato and her husband Anthony of Tewksbury, and their children Nicole and Samantha LoPilato, James, Sophia, and Julianna Cappiello; her daughter Rene, her husband and their children; her husband’s children, Kenneth “KC” Fonzi of Australia, and Candace A. Fonzi of Brighton; two sisters, Marie Tontodonato of NH, and Debra Gath and her husband Joseph of Tewksbury; a brother, Paul Tontodonato and his wife Sharon (Byrns) of Methuen; her mother-in-law, Margaret (Grindle) Fonzi of Wilmington, who was the wife of the late Daniel Fonzi; her in-laws, Judith and Dennis Sheehan of NH and Daniel “Bucci” Fonzi of Wilmington; many cherished nieces and nephews; and remained a dear member of the extended Roux family of Tewksbury.
Visiting hours Tuesday, May 23, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Wednesday at 10:30 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Wednesday, May 24, at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery.
