Obituary

James L. Hooley, Jr, 79, of Medway (formerly of Brighton) died May 10th in his home. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Ellen L. (Murphy) Hooley who passed away in 2010. They were childhood sweethearts who married in 1960, and were married for 50 years.

Born in Boston, December 14, 1937, the son of the late James L. and Helen V. (Coughlin) Hooley, James lived with his wife Ellen in Brighton up until the time of her death. He later moved to Medway, MA in 2011 to be near his daughter and her 4 children.

He is survived by his children James J. Hooley of Londonderry, NH and his daughter, Leah Hooley of Medway, MA.

He was the proud grandfather of 6 wonderful grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Robert and Sarah Hooley of Londonderry, NH and Emma Rose, Jackson, Samuel and Lilyan Grace Lower, of Medway, MA.

James worked for the United States Post Office for 36 years and was proud of his accomplishments throughout his career; starting off as a clerk for the Postal Service and having served his last position in North Easton. Prior to his position in North Easton, James spent many years as the Post Master in Cohasset, MA which he often referred to as his “dream job.” This was greatly due to the proximity of the ocean which James had a profound love and respect for.

James was an avid boater most of his adult life, having only given up his favorite activity a few years ago. James and his wife Ellen spent many wonderful years enjoying each other’s company and that of their friends, boating in the waters of Buzzards Bay.

In recent years James’ favorite pastime was being with his grandchildren and attending all of their various activities. Additionally, in recent years James enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and visiting with his close friends in California and Florida.
