David Gaines, 71, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday morning, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Gaines was born December 23, 1945, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Ralph P. & Mary Williamson Gaines. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School, class of 1964. He worked for Fitzgerald Water, Light and Bond, CSX Railroad, and Delco Remy (Delphi) Battery from which he retired. After retiring from Delphi, he spent time delivering flowers for his son, at Steve’s Fanciful Flowers. Mr. Gaines enjoyed reading Western novels, reading to his grandchildren, and spending time with his fur baby Ginger. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Callie Garbutt Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Dowdy Gaines of Ben Hill County; two children: Steve Gaines & James Gibbs of Ben Hill County and Eric Gaines of Ben Hill County; three grandchildren: Emily Gibbs, Erin Gibbs, both of Ben Hill County and Parker Gaines of Broxton; two brothers: Kent & Marian Gaines of Ben Hill County and John & Donna Gaines of Byron; a sister, Gloria & Ron Blakeney of Calhoun, Louisiana. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
