John W. Strem
Of Tewksbury

John W. Strem, age 84, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, passed away at the Blaire House of Tewksbury on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline D. (Sheehan) Strem, who passed away on October 7, 1988.

Born in Tewksbury on December 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter F. Strem and the late Mary A. (Mooers) Strem.
John attended Tewksbury Public Schools.

In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was awarded several decorations for his active duty service including the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Lieutenant in security by A.V.C.O. Corporation in Wilmington, where he worked for 30 years.

John was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition, he liked gardening, raising livestock, and watching the birds that frequented the numerous feeders at his home.

John’s family members include his children, John W. Strem, Jr. and his companion Tami Springer of Chesapeake, VA, Joseph W. Strem of Tewksbury, Daniel E. Strem and his wife Lynn of Edgartown, the late Wayne F. Strem and Sharon A. Doucette; grandchildren, Jessica Milella, Sarah, John, Justin, Brendan, Tyler, and Matthew Strem, Lindsey Truesdel; great grandchildren, Lucas and Abigail Strem; his longtime companion, Nancy H. D’Alessandro, and her children, Linda McCarthy and Mark D’Alessandro;. John’s siblings, Lilly Binette, and the late Walter “Bummy” Strem and Gladys Arsenault. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Calling hours are Monday, May 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
