Cecil Milton Lopes, Jr., 58 of New Bedford died May 8, 2017 unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Phyllis F. (Fabio) Lopes and Cecil M. Lopes, Sr., he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Cecil was employed by the family business, New Bedford Floor Covering.
He was an avid football athlete who played all throughout high School as well as semipro football. He was a diehard fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics.
Cecil was a Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Elder who enjoyed attending tribal events with his family. He had a heart of gold and a contagious smile.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his parents; his sister, Deirdre Lopes; his children, Unique Lopes, Cerissa Correia, Chaquana Lopes, Cyrel Lopes and Joycelyne Lopes; his nephew, Jarell Ervin; his grandchildren, Alanna, Anthony, Aiyana, Jydell, Ja'L, Sharif, Azari'yah, Messiah and Sincere; and his significant other Jazmine Babbitt.
He was the father of the late Cecil M. Lopes, III.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 12 Noon at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
