Emory Fowler, 82, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Arp Cemetery in Irwin County, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Fowler was born February 22, 1935, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Thomas Arnold & Kathleen Griffin Fowler. He was a graduate of Irwinville High School. Mr. Fowler served his country honorably in the United States Army being stationed in Germany in the early 1960s. He was a farmer and managed cotton gins in Blackshear and Rebecca. Mr. Fowler was also a rural mail carrier. An avid golfer, he worked as a groundskeeper at Mallard Point Golf Club in Rochelle and was Club Champion. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Wisham Fowler of Ben Hill County; three children: Mike Fowler of Ben Hill County, Bobby Fowler of Ben Hill County, and Sandy & Karl Leyse of Fitzgerald; three grandchildren: Deborah & Sammy Brown, Samantha Leyse, and Jake Fowler; a great-granddaughter, Emory Ann Brown; a brother, Jerry & Janet Fowler of Texas; and a sister, Virginia Johnson of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Winfred Fowler.
