Kenneth James Rogers, the son of Mary L. Rogers (Murphy) and Raymond R. Rogers passed away on May 1, 2017.
Survived by his daughter Brianne Rogers of Cranston RI, his son Kenneth J. Rogers Jr. of Coventry RI, his brothers Timothy F. Rogers of Brownfield ME, and Thomas M. Rogers of Truro MA, his sister Mary-Ann Fraser of Newburyport MA, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ken worked for the Parks & Recreation Division of the State of R.I as the long-time Regional Park Manager at Lincoln Woods State Park, and then as Regional Park Manager at Goddard Memorial State Park.
Ken spent the last months of his life in Truro, MA, where he lived with his brother Tom and Tom’s husband Paul. He cherished his many trips to the beautiful beaches, long walks around his neighborhood, and his favorite clam chowder.
Ken enjoyed the outdoors all his life. He was an avid hiker and loved being in “his” woods near his home in Johnston RI.
Ken became an accomplished baker after lessons from his mother- in-law and happily made dozens of biscotti and cookies for family and friends during the holidays, and for those who came to know him during his months in Truro.
Being a hockey goalie and playing other sports growing up led Ken to become an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, The Celtics, Bruins and especially, the New England Patriots. Ken always loved watching sports with others, so at every family gathering there was always some game on the TV.
Ken celebrated his Irish heritage with a tattoo of the Celtic cross and a shamrock. He considered Ireland to be the most beautiful place he ever visited.
Embracing his family with joy and laughter, Ken’s dry wit always left everyone smiling. He cared for his children with a strong paternal passion. He also allowed his close-knit family to care for him during his many health hurdles. His ability to bounce back multiple times to a full, productive and joyful life has proven to all that Ken was indeed the “heart warrior” we loved.
Ken and his family very much appreciated Ken’s lifelong partnership with his medical teams at Boston Children’s and Brigham & Women’s which allowed Ken to achieve a full and remarkable lifestyle.
Ken’s request for a private service will be honored with the spreading of his ashes later in the month. Donations in his memory can be made to the Children’s Hospital Hale Family Center for Families. http://www.childrenshospital.org/patient-resources/family-resources/the-center-for-families
