Woonsocket – Steven D. Bokoski, 64, of Woonsocket died Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Stephen M. and Aurea D. “Rhea” (Bourre) Bokoski. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Steven was a graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy. He was also a graduate of Rhode Island College and Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Steven was employed by the State of Rhode Island for many years with the Department of Labor and Training. He also previously worked for H&R Block and was a substitute teacher in local schools.
Steven was a gifted and accomplished musician. He was a member of a local band and played the accordion, keyboard and oboe. He won a number of awards for his musical talent and was a member the local musicians union. He was a voracious reader and kept up with current events in the newspapers.
Steven was a longtime communicant and active member of St. Agatha’s Parish and served as a Eucharistic minister. Additionally he volunteered his time at Precious Blood Parish. One of Steven’s special traits was singing at the top of his voice in church. He also enjoyed a number of trips to the musicians conferences in Las Vegas. For many years Steven also went on on a number of road trips to most every state in the country. Many of his stops would include a visit to Presidential Libraries.
Steven is survived by his sister Gail Parente and his nephew David Parente both of North Providence and his grandnieces Audrey and Ellen.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 am in St. Agatha Church, Fairfield St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday morning from 8:30-9:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
