Robert F. Mello
July 1, 1939 - March 29, 2017
MELBOURNE, FL: Robert F. Mello, age 77, a resident of Melbourne, FL, formerly of
Tewksbury, MA, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Holmes Regional Medical
Center.
He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy E. (Cook) (Sylvester) Mello.
Born in Cambridge on July 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Lillian O. (Smith)
Mello.
Bob grew up in Tewksbury where almost everyone knew him. He ran his own excavating
business, Bob’s Backhoe Service, and loved operating the heavy equipment. After retiring and
moving to Florida, he joined an excavating company for the sheer joy of running the equipment.
Above all, he loved his family.
Bob is survived by his daughters Bobbi (Mello) Mears and her husband Marty of Crestview, FL;
Susan Sylvester of Tewksbury, MA; and Lynne (Sylvester) Dykeman of Lowell, MA; son
Vincent “Jay” Sylvester and his wife Jody of Palm Bay, FL; many grandchildren and great-
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was also the father of the late Jean (Sylvester) Grigoriou and Paul Sylvester and the brother
of the late Frederick Mello, Richard Mello, Kenneth Mello, Pauline Quinn and Dorothy
Charlton.
Visitation will be offered Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer & Dee
Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may
