Obituary

Dorothy Mae “Dottie” Schmidt passed away on Sunday, April 30th, 2017, at 91 years off age. Dottie was an energetic and very loved member of Brandon Wilde, where she lived for the last 9 years.

Dottie was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 6, 1925, to George and Hilda Hein. Dottie and her husband Robert Schmidt met in Boston when they were in college at Boston University and MIT, respectively. They moved to Augusta in 1964 for her husband’s job as plant manager at Columbia Nitrogen. After many years as a home maker, Dottie became a realtor with Trotter Realty, and then Meybohm. Dottie was honored to be the first woman to become a life member of the Augusta Chapter of the Million Dollar Club in Real Estate. She won numerous awards in real estate during her 32 year career. She continued to work in real estate until she was 80 years old. Dottie was an active member of the Augusta Country Club, the Garden Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and many others.

Dottie was buried next to her husband at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Ga. Robert died in 1977. The private service on Wednesday May 3rd, 2017, was officiated by pastor Mike Riddle. There were rose petals and gardenias strewn over her casket as it was lowered. There was also a memorial for members of the Brandon Wilde community, followed by a reception. She is survived by her two daughters, Tracey Schmidt and Lee Ann Hagler, both of Asheville, NC, and two grandchildren, Raymond Barton and Louise Barton. She will be missed.
