Stanley A. Wojcik, 99, of Fairhaven died peacefully following a brief illness on May 3, 2017, fifty-four days short of his 100th birthday. He was the beloved husband of the late Esther (Erickson) Wojcik. and the son of the late Antone and Elizabeth (Pawlina) Wojcik.
A resident of Fairhaven since his marriage in 1941, Stanley was employed as the Executive Director of the Fairhaven Housing Authority from 1965 until his retirement at the age of eighty-seven. In addition to his work at the Housing Authority, Stanley served as Town Meeting Member for 44 years. He was a long-standing member of the Lions Club, serving as Treasurer for twenty years. A member of the Riverside Cemetery Board of Directors, he continued as Board Member Emeritus until his death. A lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, he also held memberships in the American Legion and Polish-American War Veterans. With Esther, he was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church Couples Club, serving several times as President. In 2004, Stanley was named Fairhaven Man of the Year by the New Bedford Standard-Times.
Stanley is lovingly remembered by his six children: Ann Wojcik of Thomaston, CT, Louise Snyder and her husband Howard of Pembroke, Edward Wojcik and his wife Debra and Stanley Wojcik and his wife Cindi, all of Fairhaven, Lisa Govoni and her husband Richard of Rochester, and Eric Wojcik of Attleboro. He was the grandfather of fourteen and great-grandfather to numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him and held him in the highest esteem. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Edward Wojcik, and his sister Eleanor (Wojcik) Glowacki. He is survived by the last living member of Esther’s family, Doris (Erickson) Armitage of Old Saybrook, CT.
For those who were privileged enough to know Stanley, they will long remember his wit, his cheerfulness, his fierce loyalty, his unfailing sense of humor, and his twinkling blue eyes.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 8 at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, May 7 from 3-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Mass.
