Laconia-----Rita Hazel Vachon, 94, passed away peacefully at Ledgeview Drive, Taylor Home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Born on June 10, 1922 in Laconia, she was the 3rd child of David and Hazel (Currier) O’Shan.
She was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region. She attended Laconia schools, graduating from Laconia High School in 1940. During World War II she worked at Scott and Williams, before starting a business career at Hunter Hosiery, and for many years was the office manager at Gove Electric, ending her working days at the law office of Martin, Lord and Osman.
Rita was a lifetime member of the Mary Butler Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
After being a devoted mother and a valued employee, Rita began her social life after retiring at 70. She was a regular at the Laconia Athletic and Swim Club for 22 years, participating in the arthritic water program. She cherished the friends she met while there, and continued to meet with them for lunches after the club closed.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Faucett, brother, Philip O’Shan and her daughter, Diane Grant.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Crane and her husband William of Hilton Head, SC; A beloved sister-in-law, Virginia (Ginger) O’shan of Greenville, RI; Her grandsons Michael Mooney and wife Elizabeth of Mill Valley, CA, Ryan Mooney and wife Leslie Anne of Mount Pleasant, SC, step grandsons, William Crane of Portsmouth NH and Casey Crane and wife Crystal of Gilford, NH., Grand-daughters, Tracie and Karen Grant, great-grandchildren, Michael and Ian Mooney, Parker Crane and Abby Grant, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Woodside, Taylor Community, 227 Ledges Drive, Laconia, NH on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00am.
Private interment will be held at Bayside Cemetery in Laconia.
