Evelyn Wilkerson, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at her daughter’s residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery in Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 2 PM until 4 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born August 15, 1927, in Turbeville, South Carolina, to the late Julius & Mary Susan Herrington Watts. She lived in the community most of her life and was a seamstress 40 years for H. R. Kaminsky & Sons and SWS Garment of Fitzgerald. She enjoyed sewing and doing hand work. Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Ann Lewis of Irwin County, R. L. Wilkerson of Fitzgerald, Sandra W. Smith & Jack of Fitzgerald and Janice W. Padgett & Thomas of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Shelia Williams & Greg, Lamar Collier & Debra, Tammy Brewer & David, Angie Hageman & Ricky, David Smith, Kimberly & Wesley Smith, Michael Padgett & Leslie, Tim Padgett & Sherry, Joanie Padgett, Billy Wilkerson & Charity and Janet Tucker & Joey; 23 great-grandchildren and a sister, Christine Kirkman & Max of Walterboro, South Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wilkerson; two grandsons: Steve White and Dwayne Smith; a great-grandson, Tyler Wesley Smith; a brother J.C. Watts and a sister, Virginia Coker.
