Our Lord and Savior called William Henry “Bill” Huff, age 90, home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; and children, Linda Richmond (Scott), Gary Huff (Jenny), JoAnn Vernon, and Jerry Huff (Robin); 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Bill served in the Armed Forces during WWII in Okinawa. From 1959-1961, Bill helped build one of the Mercury rockets. On May 5th 1961, Alan B. Shepard, Jr. flew the Freedom 7 rocket into space, and into history, as the first American into space. Bill worked at Reynolds Metals, and International Harvester as a Pattern Maker. His best accomplishment was his service to his Lord Jesus Christ through his church, Shively Heights Baptist, and then through the joining of his all-white church with an all-black church of St. Paul, breaking the boundaries of race and racism. Bill was a true servant to his church, as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, to his family and friends, and a part of things better than himself.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway; entombment is at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation is Thursday 2:00-8:00 PM.
