Obituary

Joseph Mastromarino, 87, of Revere MA and Palm Bay, FL died April 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Boston, MA on July 23, 1929, a son of the late Joseph and Eutimia (Reppucci) Mastromarino, he attended Northeastern University in Boston for a short time before joining the US Air Force. He served with distinction and honor as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from May 1950 to March 1955. During his service, he was stationed in Germany and received 6 medals.

He co-owned a family business with his brother Henry, Mastromarino Brothers in Wilmington, MA. They employed several family members where many memories were made and it was all started by his father “Noni”. He later enjoyed many other adventures such as opening a Plumbing and Heating Store in Nashua NH.

Joe was a Lifetime club member and 'Man of the Year' for the Derry, NH Rotary Club, helped establish and volunteered for the Derry Girls and Boys Club and was a member of the DAV and VFW. Joseph was the center of a large family and hosted a yearly, not to be missed, 4th of July Family Reunion. After the death of his first wife Louise, he once again found love and happiness with Claudette. They enjoyed traveling, golfing and hosting many parties. He was adored by his sisters who called him “Sonny”, and was the glue to an amazing family who will miss him dearly.

Joseph opened his heart and home to many including Ann (Cino) Simmons, the late Jacqueline (Mamie) Durisch, Evelyn (Mamie) Fiore of Switzerland and Irene (Mamie) Matarozzo of Derry NH, enriching his life and theirs. He had a unique ability to make each family member or friend feel as they were a very special person in his life.

He is survived by his wife Claudette (Ruel) Mastromarino of Palm Bay, FL, six children, John and fiancé Marsha Burgess, Joseph and wife Dawn, all of Derry, Jeanine Bonner and husband Paul of Franklin MA, James of Derry, Jerome and wife Debra of Pittsfield, NH and Jay and wife Susan of Hudson, NH; two stepchildren, Karen Foye and Michael Rioux , both of Palm Bay FL, 13 grandchildren, Nik, Ryan and Brianna Mastromarino, Trevor, Sheena and Lynelle Mastromarino, Chantel Schools, Joseph Bonner, Cameron and Tyler Mastromarino, Mia Wallace, Joshua Foye and Tara Laver, and four great-grandchildren, Emilina Schools, Sarah and Harper Jo Wallace and Maddie Laver. Also survived by three sisters Dorothy Trapane, Edith Shaheen and Clara Mottola, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Farrell) Mastromarino in 1981 and five siblings Dr. John A. Mastromarino, Assunta Mastromarino, Louise Marotta, Henry Mastromarino and Florence Feudo.

Memorial calling hours were held on Sunday, May 7th from 1 – 4pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday May 8th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Veterans, 4647 Forbes Blvd. Lanham, MD 20706 or to the DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
