Obituary

Mary Louise (Hogg) Corthell 92 years of age passed away peacefully on April 25, 2017 after a brief period of failing health. She died at the Newfield House in Plymouth surrounded by her loving family. Born in Whitman, MA she was the daughter of the late William and Nelia Hogg. Mary was the wife of the late Richard J. Corthell Sr. with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Nelia Anderson of Carver, MA; Terry Katz and her husband David of Carver, MA, Laura Corthell of Napa, CA and Richard J. Corthell Jr. and his wife Patricia of Wareham, MA. Sadly her daughter Rebecca Kastner along with her husband Scott and son Benjamin died in a plane crash in 1986. Mary was also the loving grandmother of Beth Anderson and her partner SusanaSinclair of Swampscott, MA; Jill Katz and her husband Steve Koski of Plymouth, MA; Andrea Katz and her husband Michael Haseley of Deerfield Beach, FL; Alexandra Wu of San Francisco, CA; Madeleine Wu of Napa CA and Jeffrey Wu of Napa, CA; Kelly Lownds and her husband Jason of Assonet, MA; Patrick Corthell and his wife Lauren of Monson, MA and Richard Corthell III and his wife Alison of Wanaka, NZ. She was the much adored great grandmother of Ciara Anderson-Mello, Galileo and Orion Anderson- Sinclair; Spencer Katz; Elizabeth and Hope Lownds; Hunter and Ella Corthell and Anna and Hazel Corthell. Mary grew up in a large family on the Peaceful Meadows Dairy Farm in Whitman. She was predeceased by her six sisters Frances Hogg, Isabelle Hogg, Wilma Vernon, Nellie Coots, Betty Woodward, Amy Brown and two brothers James and William Hogg. She also leaves Deborah Corthell as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was also predeceased by her beloved gentleman friend Guido Guaraldi of Plymouth with whom she shared a very special ten year relationship.



A graduate of Whitman High School Class of 1941 Mary also successfully completed the secretarial program at BostonBusiness School in Boston, MA. She was also the proud graduate of the Rittner School of Floral Design in Boston and worked for a number of florists on the South Shore before opening her own floral business Cranberry Country Florist in Carver. She was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic golfer and enjoyed water aerobics and working out at Plymouth Fitnesswhere she was a member for many years. She was also a long time member and very active participant of the UnitarianUniversalist Church in Middleboro. Mary was happiest when she was spending time with her family but she also looked forward to her Friday lunch dates with her large group of friends as well as the frequent get togethers in her cluster at South Meadow Village.



A Celebration of Life will be held on May 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church 25 South Main Street Middleboro. The burial will be private.
