Obituary

Emmett R. Pulliam Sr., passed away on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was 87 years of age.

He was born on March 31, 1930 to Tremain and Marion (Jerrell) Pulliam in Brokenburg, VA. He moved to Charlestown in 1954 where he spent the majority of his life. Emmett was a veteran of the Korean War, were he worked as a machinist in the Engine Room of the USS Bristol. His home port was Charlestown Navy Yard, where he met and later married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” (Riley) a lifelong “Townie” from Sackville St.

Emmett was a diesel mechanic and truck driver and would often bring home his rig “The Ramblin’ Rebel” after long trips. All the neighborhood kids would gather when they heard his air horn to marvel at the insects he had caught in the grille! After retirement, he could often be found tending his garden on Elm St. where he always had time for a chat over the fence with friends, dog-walkers and total strangers.

He joins his wife “Peggy” and son Emmett Jr. in eternal life. He leaves behind his children Nora Lee DeMille of Nashua, J. Bruce Pulliam of Halifax, Mary Ann (Daughter-in-law) of Billerica, Elizabeth of Deerfield Beach Fl., Margaret Clarke and her husband Shane of Wellington FL., David Pulliam and his wife Cheryl of Billerica, Claire Ola of Manomet, and John Pulliam and his wife Sheryl of Hanover. He was a devoted Grandfather and Eight-time Great Grandfather. He was a loving brother to Mae Ramones of Fredericksburg Va. and Anne Tipton of Ft. Myers FL.

Relatives and friend are invited Emmett's Funeral on Friday May 5th, 2017 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. CHARLESTOWN followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. His visiting hours will be Thursday May 4, 2017 from 4- 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
