LaVernon Dove, 84, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Pruitt Health in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, May 1, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with the Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Dove was born April 1, 1933, in Cook County, Georgia, to the late Cliff Marion & Pearl Vickers Dove. He was a graduate of Ocilla High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. Mr. Dove was a member of the famous Irwinville Farmers Basketball Team. He served his country honorably in the United States Army being stationed at the Pentagon. He later served in the National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant after 32 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews including Connie Kilgore, Denny Dove, Judy Lott, Marcus Turner, Garry Turner, Rhonda Lynn Adams, and Don Kilgore as well as many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, LaVon Dove, D.J. Dove, and L.A. Dove and three sisters, Robbie Paulk, Juanita Turner, and Joyce Kilgore.
