Hazel M. (Belcher) Kelly 63, of Taunton died Thursday April 27, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford after a period of failing health. She was born in Brockton to the late Edward and Patricia (Delaney) Belcher. Hazel was raised and educated in Brockton graduating from Brockton High School in 1972 and then onto the Brockton School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. She had worked for South Shore Hospital, Plymouth County Hospital and finally Life Care of W. Bridgewater where she can be credited for the start of their Cardiac Care Unit. She ended her working career in 1997. Hazel had many interests; knitting, sewing, scrap booking and was always the life of the party at her bingo games.
She will be remembered for her unlimited compassion, care and love for others; and although having six children of her own, she fostered many more along the way. She was known by many as “Mama Kelly” and made herself available to anyone seeking her counsel. Hazel, “Mama’d, Nana’d and Harvey’d (her alter ego) to guide those she loved and leaves a deep void in their lives.
She is survived by her husband Steven R. Kelly, her children Todd W. of Middleboro, Rachel M. of Johnston RI, Steven A of Taunton, Chris J. of New Bedford and Scott D. Kelly of Taunton; her siblings Patricia Perry and Rosemary Sutterland both of Plymouth, Dorrie Maree of Middleboro, Joanne Terry of Brockton, Edward Belcher of Whitman and Daniel Belcher of Brockton and her four grandchildren; Zachary, Ashley, Becca and Logan Kelly. Hazel was also pre deceased by her son Timothy in 2004
Visiting hours will be Tuesday 5-8 pm in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton and a Celebration of Life Service in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 am. Cremation will follow and burial at Melrose Cemetery Brockton at a later date.
