Lamantha Marie “Bill” Matthews Shipley, 94, of Tifton passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Landon Alberson officiating. Mrs. Shipley will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, May 1, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born May 31, 1922 in Tift County, Mrs. Shipley was the daughter of the late Bessie Lou Walters Matthews and the Rev. Thomas Homer Matthews, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Oliver Shipley; one son, David Ray Wilson; one brother, Thomas Homer Matthews Jr.; and two sisters, Vivian Matthews Lindsey and Wylene Matthews Jackson. She was retired from Delco Remy and had also worked as the manager of the Diana Shop in Tifton and at Harvey’s Supermarket. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton and loved to make memory books and scrap books; loved to read and travel; loved genealogy and family history and loved to decorate for Sunday school class events.
Mrs. Shipley is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Katherine Wilson Tankersley and J. C. Tankersley of Tifton; one son, Jeffrie Keith Shipley of Valdosta; two sisters, Maxine Matthews Keoughan of Macon and Ruth Matthews Davis of Rock Hill, South Carolina; her grandchildren and their spouses, Mark David and Rita Hall, Barry Adam and Brenda Hall, Jason Christopher and Amanda Tankersley, Margaret Marie “Meg” Shipley Adams and husband Everett, Matthew Cauthen and Kayla Shipley; and her great-grandchildren, Michael Dawes Hall, David Anthony Hall, Rachel Louise Hall, Garrett Austin Hall, Emma Josephine Adams, Catherine Abigail Adams and Macy Claire Shipley.
