Augusta, GA - Lura McPherson Howard, widow of the late Thomas Jack Howard, M.D. (her husband of 51 years), went to heaven on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Trinity Hospital.
There will be a Service of Thanksgiving with the Holy Eucharist on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal) with a committal in the churchyard following. The Reverend Robert Duncan Fain will officiate.
Mrs. Howard was born in Marianna, Florida on July 9, 1933, to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Alexander McPherson. She was predeceased by her brother, Guy Neel McPherson. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and was graduated from North Fulton High School. She attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina.
She was a longtime member of the Augusta Country Club and the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was past president of the Country Hills Garden Club, charter member and past president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, and the first president of the Augusta Opera Guild. She was an avid bridge player with the Camellia Bridge Group, at the CSRA Bridge Center, and with lifelong friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Monique Howard Lentz, M.D. and husband David Wayne Lentz, her granddaughter, Hilary Howard Lentz Peil and husband Jeffrey Francis Peil, and her loving poodle, Alice.
The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to her loving caregivers Patricia Blount, Frankie Carter, Sherry Robinson, Daisy Williams and Tawanda Jones and to her physicians Dr. Danny Newman and Dr. Bimal Shah.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd music ministry or the CSRA Humane Society.
The family will receive friends at the home of Monique and David Lentz.
