Noreen P. “Pat” (Sullivan) Flynn died Tuesday morning at her home surrounded by loving family at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John T. Flynn. Pat was a lifelong resident of Brockton, born in 1924 to Daniel J. and Mary E. (Hamrock) Sullivan. Following her graduation from St. Patrick’s High School she went to Chandler Secretarial School before starting a career at New England Telephone.
Always a proud Irish American, Pat made several trips to Ireland to maintain ties to her family in the old country. Pat loved to travel and made several trips to Europe and all over the US with her favorite traveling companion, sister-in-law, and friend of 75 years, Lorraine Sullivan of Chatham. Pat also made trips to every corner of the country to visit her family and friends. In 2016, at the age of 92, Pat visited Oregon and Hawaii to see her great-grand children, logging the last of the fifty United States she visited. She loved the beach, particularly Blackman’s Point in Brant Rock. She enjoyed Irish music, dancing, and loved to read and play with her grandchildren.
Pat, the matriarch of the Flynn clan, was the loving mother of John H. Flynn and his wife Lisa of Carver, Mary Ellen Flynn and Patrick Broderick of Berkley and Brockton, Brendan D. Flynn and his wife Donna of Brockton, Stephen F. Flynn of Brockton, Noreen P. Burgess and her husband James of Harwich, Jane M. Kearns of Brockton, Joseph D. Flynn of Scituate, and Arthur J. Flynn and his wife Akua of London, England. She was the loving grandmother of 29, and loving great grandmother of 28. Pat is survived by her brothers Francis Sullivan and his wife Barbara of East Bridgewater and Stephen Sullivan and his wife Theresa of Brockton and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her former daughters-in-law Marybeth of Hanover and Dara of Brockton. Pat was a warm grandmother figure for countless other friends, distant relatives, and neighborhood kids. She was the loving mother of the late Daniel J. Flynn and Patrick M. Flynn; sister of the late Mary Johnson, Theresa Savignano, John, James, Daniel, and Kevin Sullivan; and grandmother of the late John H. Flynn, III.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, Friday April 28, 2017 from 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30am for a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 9:30am. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
