Obituary

Lazo, Leo M., a 50 year resident of West Roxbury, died on Monday April 24, 2017. Leo is survived by his wife, Jane, his children, Valerie Verplatse and her husband Allen of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Michael Lazo and his wife Cathy of Grafton, MA, and Christina Lazo-Muzio and her husband Mike of Alameda, CA, his grandchildren Jacob, Madeline, and Robert of Grafton, Christina and Evelyn of Reynoldsburg, and step grandchildren Frank and Alexandra of CA. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis Lazo, of Albania and Jane Lazo of Ireland.

Funeral From the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury on Friday April 28, at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Theresa of Avila Church at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours in the funeral home on Thursday April 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
Interment with Military Honors in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne on Monday May 1, at 2:15 pm. WW II and Korean War Veteran.

Leo graduated from BC High and enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Argonne as a deck division petty officer. He received his BS in BA from Northeastern University. He was commissioned in the Navy from the OCS program. He attended Navy Supply School in Bayonne, NJ and served as a supply officer at Newport, RI. As collateral duty at Newport, he tried many court martials which led him to Boston University school of Law where he received his Juris Doctor degree. He was selected for Captain in 1972. He retired from the Navy in 1983 with a total of 38 years of service.
He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1958, joined the law firm of Badger, Patt, Doyle and Badger and was admitted to the United States District Court in 1959. He became partner in the law firm in 1968 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1974.
Active in many organizations, he was a founding, sustaining member of the Navy Supply Corp School Alumni Assn., Past Commander of the Mass Department of the Naval Order of the US, Past Chapter and Department Commander of the Military Order of World Wars. He was a Life member of the Reserve Officers Assn of the United Sates (serving as past president and present Judge Advocate); the Naval Reserve Assn, US Naval Institute, Wardroom Club, Fleet Reserve Assn. Senior Life Member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, Charitable Irish Society, Association of Naval Aviation, Surface Navy Assn, First Corp of Cadets Veterans Assn., Marine Memorial Club of San Francisco, Military Historical Society of Massachusetts.
He was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Assn, Mass Trial Lawyers Assn., Mass Bar Assn, Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity, Fellow Mass Bar Foundation and the Norfolk County Bar Assn.
