SPENCER Ralph M. Wood 79, of No. Spencer Rd., died Monday, April 24 at Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Mary D.(Baker) Baker-Wood, his son, Adam R. Wood of Worcester, his daughter, Catherine H. Wood of Boston, a brother, Roger W. Wood, Jr. of Gaithersburg, MD., and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Beverly Ann Avery in 2005. Ralph worked as a research technician at Norton Co. in Worcester for 35 years, retiring in 2001.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Roger W. Wood, Sr. and Helena (Bassett) Wood and graduated from David Prouty High School in 1956. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-62 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. On his return, he attended Worcester State College.
He loved travel, fishing, camping, and family vacations at the Cape, Maine and the Berkshires. He attended many Norton/St.Gobain retiree events and cherished his many years and friendships with co workers at Norton.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Private burial will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Common Ground Land Trust, Inc., P.O.
