Domnica T. "Dora" (Tanacea) Vasilescu, 98, of Thompson, CT died Monday, April 24th with her son and caregiver, Theodore at her side. Her husband of 44 years, Epamanonda Vasilescu died in 1986; she also is survived by her other two sons, Christi Vasilescu of Gig Harbor, WA and Richard Vasilescu of Anderson, SC; her sister Mary Gity of Laguna Woods, CA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers.
She was born in Korce, Albania the daughter of Sotir and Sophie (Muzea) Tanacea, and formerly resided in Worcester before moving to Bridgeport, CT and later to Thompson. Dora had worked as a salesperson for 20 years at D.M. Reads Department Store in Bridgeport. She was a former member of St. Dimitri Romanian Orthodox Church of Bridgeport and a lifetime member of its Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
Theodore wishes to express his heartfelt thanks to the Emergency and Nursing Staff and assistants at UMass Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital for the exemplary care provided to my mother.
Her funeral is Friday, April 28th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, April 27th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
